Continuing with the Content series of EP’s, DEFSET ploughs ahead with 4 club ready, explosive, original pieces. Exploring dancehall rhythms woven in with hardcore influenced breaks, punctuated with pounding distorted 808’s, shuddering subs and sprinkled with trademark modular sound design. Unlike Content#01, this second visit moves away from acid house and techno and into the arena of broken beats and searing electro. Take Me utilises crystalline synth lines and hypnotic vocal chops to give the heavy electro groove depth and texture. 911 is a wonky, 5 in the morning, back room banger, with the most satisfying of drops. Broken Nails features piercing chord stabs and blistering breaks to build the energy, whilst Over Basel see’s DEFSET use garage influences to build a dark, brooding, shuffling groove with a heavy percussive element and undulating subs. Hodge puts the icing on the cake with a stellar remix of Take Me, giving a 4/4 flavour to DEFSET’s electro original. Clearly crafted to move a dancefloor, Hodge, as usual, manages to build energy and retain it in a refined and intelligent way.
